Two poops and a Rescue

Doesn’t that just sound like a good day at the pool? We went to the public water park today for our kids’ swim lessons as we have for the last two weeks. Today however, the pool was completely empty. Its 95° and there is no one in the water–just several hundred sweaty patrons and some lifeguards and pool staff hangin’ out on the side. I had a feeling…

Me: “So…did we have to clean the pool today?
Swim instructor(smiling): “we had a health code violation so we can’t get back in the water for another 30 minutes.”
Me: “Ah, somebody pooped in the pool eh?”
Swim instructor: hahahahaha (I call that a “yes”)
I immediately thought of my friend Kristen and a recent story of her own.

I walk around to a play area with the kids to pass the time. All of a sudden a lifeguard sprints across the park to the water slide area(which was still functioning clean). And another with a duffel bag. And another and another. Suddenly, the slides and lazy river ride are empty. People surround the pool deck staring in the same direction. Moms in the play area count their children and run to find the older ones. Apparently, a boy around 10ish? had an accident on the slide–no details but the rumor is he hit his head on something. The lifeguard was in and out of the water in seconds and he was cared for instantly. After about 15 minutes or so, he was taken out of the park on a gurney and that’s all I know. I’ll watch the newspaper tomorrow. Scary. And of course 5 minutes later, the pool water received an all clear and everyone forgot the incident and jumped in the pool.

At the end of the kids’ lessons they combined 2 classes to play a game. But that was cut short by a barrage of whistles signaling “everybody out of the pool!” Sure enough about 6 ft to my right, a brown mass of something lay on the pool floor. A lifeguard donned an arm length plastic bag on one arm and a rubber glove on the other–and stepped into the pool to investigate. Sadly, it was the same lifeguard who had just rescued the young boy at the slide. I guess heroes must do their share of dirty work as well. How about it Park District? Can she at least have tomorrow off?

And did I mention this all happened in the course of 1 hour?

Thought of you last night – we had a Poop Incident at our pool. No not my kids, but the pool was evacuated. First poop incident of the year! Last year it was vomiting incidents – and once was my kids (he was thirsty and decided drinking pool water was easier than getting out to get water!)
