Did Champ chase the sitter away for good?

We ended a long horrible week yesterday. Doug & I decided to rehire our morning babysitter for the evening so we could hang out and watch our friend play guitar. When we got home I asked Katie how the kids did. She skipped right over the kids into “do you want to know why Champ is in his crate?”. Uh oh.

Background: Our babysitter is the daughter of a family friend who we watched grow up. She often visits a relative who owns and hunts a large piece of wooded land. Katie agreed to learn how to field dress next hunting season. She didn’t know what that meant. Go here if you don’t either.

Champ was out in the yard doing his thing and running around. Katie saw him run by the door with something white in his mouth. She went out to check, afraid he’d gotten into something. At this point he had dropped whatever it was and headed back to Katie. He saw her, went back to pick it up and ran to Katie with his offering. Yeah. It was a rabbit. A dead rabbit. A big dead rabbit. So of course Katie ran into the house, Champ dropped the rabbit on our back porch and came in the house. Right into his crate. JD, of course, couldn’t keep his eyes off the poor little dead thing all night shouting, “its distracting me!” Fortunately, she’s laughing about the whole thing. I told her had she learned how to field dress, she could have turned it into an activity with the kids!

Never a dull moment around here. Hope she’ll come back. Maybe next time we can trap squirrel and make pelts for the Barbie dolls.

She’ll come back…we told her that Champ was paying her a compliment by bringing his offering to her. Don’t think she’s ready to be a hunter yet, though….;-)

Duh!! I can’t believe she didn’t call me (or her dad). We could have cleaned it and it would have been waiting for you in the freezer when you got home.

    Now THAT is Sunday dinner!!
